Clay Revels

Clay started his scuba journey with a PE class at UNC in 1984.  He became Open Water certified and immersed himself in the underwater world, including some sketchy public safety adventures while working as a paramedic.  Life intervened, bringing a career change, marriage, and two kids.  After a lengthy surface interval with a spouse who didn’t share his diving interests, he returned to the water having convinced his wife and two kids to try a Discover Scuba Diving experience in Curaçao.  This experience led to the whole family becoming certified divers and led to Clay down the professional path, becoming a Master Scuba Diver Trainer.  Clay is a recovering Scoutmaster, loves to work with young people, and even helps teach that same UNC PE class 40 years later!

Cucho Sanchez

Cucho has been diving (legally) since 1990, two years after joining the Army. After 9/11, following numerous deployments on the other side of the pond, he made the decision to pursue the PADI professional path. With Master Instructor Bill Sawyer, Cucho became a Divemaster.  A few years later, Cucho continued on the professional path, becoming an Open Water Scuba Instructor under the tutelage of PADI Course Director, Patty Seery.

After retiring from the Army in 2014, he continues to work as a Life Support Engineer with the top tactical unit in the US military. He is a Cryogenics maintenance/operator, BAUER compressor level 1 operator, WHA International Level 2 for Oxygen systems, Level 2 O2 Booster maintainer, and a certified Gas Blender.  He is factory authorized to service Zeagle, Atomic Aquatics, Aqualung and Mares equipment.

Cucho remains an Army Instructor/Dive Supervisor, a DAN Instructor, and a PSI-PCI Instructor.  If you’d like to learn a few things about scuba cylinders, Cucho is your guy!

You may see him diving vintage gear occasionally. His favorite place to dive is, of course, where he grew up - Puerto Rico, but he likes Earth - the best spot!

Karl Kimball

Karl has been diving for over 40 years and was certified on the island of Oahu, Hawaii in 1984, by PADI Instructor Jack Pappas.  Karl immediately fell in love with diving and the Ocean Realm by experiencing some of the most beautiful waters to dive in thanks to Jack, who took him on “extra” excursions in Hawaii.  Because Jack was so gracious with him, Karl wants to return the same to his diving students.  Bill Sawyer was Karl’s instructor for his PADI Divemaster certification and Karl enjoyed that so much he went on to become a PADI Instructor through the teachings and mentoring of Patty Seery.  His diving has taken him to locations such as the springs and caves of Ginnie Springs, Devil’s Den and Crystal River (all located in Florida), Looe Key reef and Key Largo of the Florida Keys, the Gulf of Mexico, Cozumel and the Palancar Reef, Roatan Honduras, shore diving off the coast of Southern California, and southeast Florida, Maui, Oahu, Lanai, the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Laje de Santos Marine State Park in Brazil, Saint Lucia, the North Carolina coastline and more to include the Fantasy Lake Adventure Park and Lake Phoenix!

FAVORITE DIVE SITE: Molokini Crater, Maui, Hawaii and the Cathedrals, Lanai, Hawaii

He is also a 40+-year member of the PGA of America making him a professional in two sports.  He has earned the Golf Professional of Year, Bill Strasbaugh Award and the Patriot Award honors from the Carolinas PGA Section and is a Past President for the section.  Karl was also a two-year member of the PGA Tour and four-year member of the Hogan and Nike Tours (Korn Ferry) and is now a partner in the Amerazil Golf LLC golf management company.

Karl is a strong advocate and user of Aqua Lung scuba line utilizing the Aqua Lung X Shot fins, Apeks XTX 50 regulator, the Apeks Dimension BCD and the Apeks VX1 dive mask.  His dive computer is the Shearwater Peregrine.  He also wears the Henderson TherMaxx diving suits both in 3mm and 5mm and also dives the DUI drysuit.

Karl is also a PSI PCI certified cylinder inspector and is a DAN first aid instructor in Basic Life Support, O2 provider and Diving First Aid.  He also volunteers as a member of the dive team and is on the Dive Control Board for the Greensboro Science Center.

Kelly Revels

Kelly has over 34 years of professional nursing experience in Emergency, Pediatrics, Critical Care, Education, and Leadership. Kelly recently retired from UNC Hospitals after 33 years. She has previously been training center faculty for ACLS, PALS, BLS, TNCC, and ENPC. She continues as an Instructor for AHA (BLS) and American Red Cross: BLS, CPR/AED/First Aid, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, and Babysitter Training.

Scuba diving came late in life to Kelly after a traumatic car accident 12 years ago when she could no longer keep up with her very active family with her PADI Open Water cert in 2016 as an adaptive diver. She loves to travel, dive in warm places, and find new foods with her husband, Clay – one of the “old dudes”.

In addition to teaching life safety courses and supporting Old Dudes Diving, Kelly is an ICF Certified Professional Coach (CPC) working with leaders and individuals. Kelly is a Tarheel Alum (Go Heels) and proud mom of Colin, UNC ‘24 and Bailey NCSU ’19 & UNC DDS ‘24 and yes, they are both PADI Advanced Open Water divers.
